    Accidental Discharge Archived Message

Posted by Tom on October 22, 2007, 8:49 am

My father recently gave me my grandfather's 16 gauge Ideal grade. It is in great condition for its age and the amount of use it has seen. I don't know the serial number right now but it is a featherweight.

He told me that a long time ago the gun accidentally fired on him when he closed the action. This weekend I took it pheasant hunting and it did the same thing to me. The right barrel fired upon closing the action. What could be the problem with this gun? I notice that the firing pins drop down if the gun is tilted down with the action open. They drop back if the gun is tilted back. Is this normal or is something in need of repair?

Any help would be appreciated. I would like to continue hunting with this gun because it fits me well and is a dream to carry but the accidental discharge is very disconcerting.

    Thanks,

    Tom
