David. Apparently the reason is that an add on of 33 1/3% on all guns valued below $1500 equals $500 or a 1/3 on a $1500 gun. Hunter Arms charged about a 1/3 more for guns with AE's until you got to the higher grades and then the cost for AE's as a percentage of the base price of the gun dropped dramatically. Therefore, a flat extra $ 500 for guns valued at $1500 and above makes perfect sense. Take a Specialty grade at $4000. If it has AE it would be ridiculous to add 33% or $1333 to the price. Conversely, if it has extractors to reduce the price a 1/3 would not comport with the market either. By adding a flat $500 to higher grade or $1500 and above guns more accurately reflects the actual value added to the gun because it has AE. Parkers generally add 33% to all guns with AE irrespective of grade or value and that is apparently the reason for the disparity between the published or ask for prices and what the guns actually sell for. Adding a 1/3 for AE may make the Parker owner feel better until he trys to sell his over priced gun. I guess the same logic applies to Vent Ribs etc because they were also options that carried a fixed price rather than a percentage add on.
