    Revdoc,

A little too curt in the Baker history. When W.H. Baker left Ithaca, he returned to Syracuse and worked at his brother Dr. Ellis Baker's Syracuse Forging Co. which soon became the Syracuse Forging & Gun Co. making the MacFarland designed trigger-plate hammer gun which was called "New Baker." When the factory in Syracuse burned, they moved to Batavia and became the Baker Gun & Forging Co. The trigger-plate hammer gun evolved from being underbolted to being wedge-bolted thru the rib extension. At the time of the move W.H. Baker was ill with TB and they brought in Frank A. Hollenbeck as plant superintendant. W.H. died in 1889. Frank Hollenbeck had three patents granted while he was in Batavia, and two were assigned to the Baker Gun & Forging Co. The lack of patent dates on the fine sidelock Baker hammerless guns makes it a bit problematical for us researchers!!
