The Baker evolution is complicated and started with the W.H. Baker & Co. in Lisle, NY 1875-1877 then in Syracuse (financed by LC Smith and his brother) 1877-1880. Then he went to Ithaca Gun Co. but eventually left and started Baker Gun & Forging 1889-1933 in Batavia, N.Y. Baker Gun & Forging sold the gun business to H & D Folsom about 1919.
The W.H. Baker & Co 2 brl guns should have serial numbers 50-1,650.
The LC Smith Maker Baker guns (1878-1884) should have a serial number range of 1,650-10,000 and were graded Quality A (lowest) to Quality F (highest)
The whole story is found in John Houchins' L.C. Smith "The Legend Lives" which can be ordered on the Home Page.
