Now we all get what we pay for - its who does it and the value they place on their time & effort. That said, I'll probally raise some controversy but here goes. I recently purchased a 3E that was totally neglected for 30+ years. The stock needed refinishing (no butt plate and a hole where an initial oval once rested & a dark coat of shellac over the wood & lock plates.) The locks, banjo forearm lever & receiver were cleaned & sent to Color Case in New Springfield,Ohio - now they are absolutely beautiful case hardening exactly like the origional Smiths. (I recommend Color Case with turn around time of 2 weeks.) The main spring was broken so a new one was put in plus a lock screw was engraved & inserted (Numerich Arms for the parts.) Hawkins Recoil pad from Galazans and a brass ititial oval that I already had was put in the stock, the stock & forearm was refinished. The labor, case color and parts cost a total of $ 386.25 at a rural Central Illinois gunsmith. The gun is absolutely beautiful I have and have handled many LCS's so can appreciate their beauty. My point is that refurnishing doesn't necessarily have to cost a fortune! Jim
