David, In addition to what Bill said, Hunter advertised 2-3/4" chambers on their 16's in 1929, so it's entirely possible that the gun was special ordered with longer chambers in 1927. As a matter of fact( and slightly off topic), I own a 1907 16 ga.2E with 3" chambers that appear to be factory and is so stamped on the barrel flats BUT the 3" designation is a line stamping and not an oval like your 2-3/4" stamping. Additionally, I've never seen your stamp used on anything but 3" 12's. As to refinish, I agree with Bill---excellent case restoration on the receiver. I can't tell from your picture--- is that a BTFE? If so, the taper just doesn't look quite right for a factory BTFE. Regardless---a nice gun.
