I'm impressed. The one knock that I might have against old Elsie is that if you should, God Forbid, happen to drop her (which I did once as a boy), she will in-all-likelihood go off (mine did!) I have never forgotten that day. To be fair, that gun had been restocked earlier (rather badly, as I look back on it) by a rank amatuer and that factor may very-well have caused or at-least substantially contributed to the discharge, but we digress. Your project is quite impressive to me, and I frankly can't wait to see her finished. Will you be completing her with an eye to substantial weight-loss as well?
I can certainly understand why traditionalists would be lukewarm about a project like this. Even the lowly OO grade is a really nice gun in good condition. I would be a shame to muck with a nice one (I'm assuming this one wasn't?) but I'm more user than collecter and I'm all about function. I'd guess that this gun should function quite nicely upon completion.
