A skeleton steel butt plate on a Smith gun was a special order item; and a feature I've never seen listed in a catalog as an option. But it was always available, and the best proof that it was came from an original pricing list prepared by Albert Kraus in 1941 giving the shop cost for engraving a skeleton steel butt plate. I've never seen anything indicating the added cost to a gun at retail for this option; but have seen several examples of Smith gun with an original skeleton steel butt plate. Sorry I can't be more helpful; but assume you must own a Smith gun with this option?
