Two events with one designated five-stand layout for the 16 gauge event, and a separate five stand layout for the 20 gauge event. Shooters may enter one or both events at their option. Please note that only 16 gauge guns can be used for the 16 gauge event and only 20 gauge guns can be used for the 20 gauge event.
Open to LC Smith and Parker 16 gauge and 20 gauge hammer and hammerless guns only. Reproduction and modified guns are allowed; although all modified guns must be permanently chambered.
Largest shot size is #7.5. Max load allowed for the 16 gauge is 1oz; with the max allowed 20 gauge load limited to 7/8oz.
Each participant may enter the qualifying event for both venues as many times as desired, with that shooters best score/ scores being the score/s that counts. Again, participants are welcomed to shoot to qualify and make both the 20 gauge event teams and the 16 gauge event teams as many times as they wish.
The top five scoring shooters from each team will face off Thursday around 4:30pm for the team shoot offs (one for the 20 gauge and one for the 16 gauge). Ties for qualifying will be determined by forward long run. Qualifying will be cut off around 4pm in order to determine final team line ups, and allow the trapper sufficient time to re-set traps. In the event of a team tie, or tie score for an individual award; the winning team and individual award/s will be determined by a shoot-off.
In order that spectators may enjoy the final shoot-outs for team trophies, the final team events will take place as follows: the 20 gauge challenge event will take place first, with the 16 gauge challenge concluding the event. Individual trophies will be awarded to the top 5 shooters in each event , with only a shooters final round scores being used to determine each trophy winner.
The winning team will be awarded the perpetual trophy for each event which will be engraved with the name of the winning team at a later date.
Individual and team awards will be given out Saturday in conjunction with the Challenge Cup awards ceremony.
This is not a sanctioned event or sponsored by either the LCSCA or PGCA, therefore there are no entry fees for these events. Simply pay Mr. Hemingway (or his designated party) the required targets fee when you register at the at the 5-stands tent (in years past that fee has been $15 per round of 30 targets). To avoid confusion, a sign will be placed in front of the five- stand layout being used for each event (the 20 gauge event will most likely take place on the field to the left side of the tent, and the 16 gauge event will most likelly take place on the field to right side of the tent).
The qualifying and final events will consist of 30 targets each shot as follows: two report pairs and one true pair.
Score sheets will be maintained by the trapper at the five-stand; therefore, when a shooter registers and pays his targets fee, he must be sure to give the trapper his name and the name of the team for which he is shooting. Additionally, it is the shooters responsibility to make sure he is shooting at the correct five-stand (20 gauge at the designated 20 gauge five-stand, and likewise for the 16 gauge). Team Smith and Parker shooters can be squadded together as mixed teams; therefore there is no requirement to have five team members on a squad in order to shoot.
Usual safety rules apply, as with any other shooting event; and as per the requirements of Deep River.
John has requested that one Team Parker and one Team Smith member volunteer to help with counting and verifying scores in order to eliminate confusion, or tomfoolery.
Remember that these events are solely for fun and bragging rights amongst friends, so please be there early on Thursday; join in the fun, and participate in some very challenging and exciting small bore action!
