L.C. Smith vs Parker Challenge
Isn’t it amazing, but Spring is already here; and in a few short weeks it’ll be time to gather and celebrate our Fifteenth Annual L.C. Smith vs Parker Challenge! Therefore, the purpose of this post is to let everyone know that this great Event will commence promptly at noon on Friday, April 27, 2018, as we kick-off the Round One Qualification Event; and from that point shooting will continue non-stop thru Saturday afternoon (the 28th) at which time we shall allow the gun smoke to clear and determine which members of the LCSCA and the PGCA shall compete to claim the 2018 Challenge Cup. The 2018 L.C. Smith vs Parker Challenge Event will again be held in conjunction with the annual Southern Side x Side Classic scheduled for the weekend of April 27-29, 2018; and if you enjoy shooting, Sanford, NC is where you’ll want to be this last weekend in April.
There’s not much more to say except, and unless you’re a new member (or not yet a member!) of the L.C. Smith Collectors Association, because you already understand the significance of this most anticipated, most enjoyable, and best attended vintage guns exhibition and shooting event yet devised for the modern-day vintage double gun enthusiasts! And especially this year, for after absolutely dominating the Challenge Event for the past four consecutive years, Team LC was “shot out of the saddle” by Team Parker in 2017; and by the thinness of margins, three targets. But with each new year comes renewed hope and new opportunities; and I’ve already been made aware of just how determined Team LC will be as they move to rectify this wrong and begin a new era of Challenge Event dominance. That said, there’s an awfully wide gap between having the “want to” and then being able to “follow through”; so Team LC can’t take anything for granted, as one can bet the farm that those “Boys from Meriden” will be there in full force to defend their hard won prize. So this announcement serves as your “call to arms”; a blatant (and hopefully unnecessary) reminder to all the excellent members of the LCSCA to get out there and work those clays courses as diligently as is possible between now and April 27 so that we are properly prepared to do battle!
So don’t procrastinate any longer, make your reservations and plans NOW to attend the 2018 Challenge Event so that you don’t miss out on all the fun and excitement! If you’re a new member, or an “old” member who has procrastinated in the past so that you’ve never attended the Challenge; then stop making excuses and don’t allow another opportunity to pass you by. Unbelievably, and as already noted, 2018 will mark the 15th anniversary of the Challenge; and yet the interest and excitement surrounding the Challenge Event just continues to grow so that the Challenge Event is perhaps the most popular and anticipated event of its type every year. But until you’ve actually been there and experienced the Challenge Event personally, accurately describing this great Event is impossible.
The Challenge Event and the Southern Side x Side is THE venue whereby good friends and folks from all over the country, and many parts of the world, assemble each year to make and renew friendships, and to enjoy great fellowship with one another. And the Challenge Event will also be the venue for the hosting of our 2018 L.C. Smith Collectors Association Annual Meeting; an event that will begin at 5:00 PM on the evening of April 27, and be held at the Deep River Clubhouse. This is the perfect opportunity for members to meet and interact directly with the leadership of this most excellent organization; and to gain insight as to how the business affairs of the organization are conducted.
Once again, the LCSCA and PGCA will be sponsoring a separate meeting tent dedicated exclusively to our organizations; and equally important, our tent will be conveniently located just above the Deep Rive “dove field” and the 5-stand layouts where all related Challenge Event shooting venues are held. New attendees will find our spacious “meeting tent” a wonderful place to accommodate members and guests, make new friends, enjoy great fellowship; and to be amazed at the rare and unique L.C. Smith related guns and memorabilia on display. And although we do indeed wish to enjoy great fellowship with those guys and gals of the PGCA with whom we share our tent, we set those feelings aside as we exit so as not to lose focus of the fact that the Challenge Event is a COMPETITION! So once again, I encourage everyone to practice, practice, and practice some more so that the LCSCA comes ready to reclaim the title of Challenge Event World Champion!
Those members who already know me know I get EXCITED just thinking about the Challenge Event; and my hope is that every member can be just as excited! Soon I’ll be posting additional Challenge Event related details regarding rules, promotional items, etc.; but in the interim I request that those planning to attend the 2018 Challenge Event either email or call so that we can gauge the size of our contingent in advance; and that request also applies to the numbers of family members and guests you are also planning to bring along. And we especially want our members to bring as many youth shooters as possible, as the PGCA is planning a very special and unique youth competition open to young men and women aged 10-17. This event is very special because there are no entry fees, target fees (5-stand) are paid by the PGCA, participants can use any make Side by Side shotgun, RST shells will be provided at no charge, and shooters will be divided into classes by age groups (10 – 11, 12 – 13, 14 – 15, 16 – 17) so that everyone enjoys an equal chance at winning a shooter award. But perhaps this is the best part, every participant will have his/her name entered into a drawing for a restored-to-as-new-condition 16 gauge Parker Trojan; with the drawing for this gun to be held at the conclusion of the event. And wouldn’t it be great if an LCSCA member’s kid won that Parker? Were that to happen, he could then immediately sell it to one of those drooling, fist dragging PGCA members already panting after the piece; then use those funds to buy a real shotgun, an L.C. Smith!
So be sure to let us know you’ll be there. Members can email me as follows: firstname.lastname@example.org; or, if you prefer, call me direct at 706/254-8350 or 864/233-9033, Ext 238. And again, whatever you do don’t forget that the Challenge Event is also a great family event; and high-lighted each year by the inspirational Sunday morning services conducted by Rev. Charlie Brooks. So, and even without the added lure of this new youth event, what better atmosphere or reasons does a man need to bring his bride, his kids, his grandkids, his shooting buds, the neighbor’s kid/s, and even those other various and sundry ever-so-close guy and gal friends you’re seldom seen with in public! I’ll certainly be looking forward to seeing everyone in Sanford; and until we are finally together again, may you stay healthy and enjoy a safe trip. But remember that we really need a victory this year; so in the interim get prepared by shooting as many clay targets as you possibly can. The 2018 L.C. Smith vs. Parker Challenge is gonna’ be lot’s of fun!
