A couple of questions about the Southern Side by Side rules

Not trying to start anything, but I came in late to the game. I was involved in a discussion a couple of weeks ago at a local shoot, and the subject came up about using sub gauge tubes at the Southern and Fall Side by Side shoots. The rules clearly state they are not allowed, but I have no idea why that is the rule. It's hard enough for most of us to find a SxS with suitable dimensions, and many shooters are happy to bring out big bore guns that are a little suspect on barrel strength with Briley tubes, it seems like it would increase participation in the smaller gauges without affecting the integrity of the class. We do it for NSSA and NSCA shoots, not sure why it's a problem for the classics. Are there any age restrictions on the pump gun event? I have a couple and would like to shoot it next year, but all of mine are 1967 or later. Does it have to be any manufacture date? Thanks, Mike
