While my gun is within the serial number range of the Rochester Ordnance guns, it lacks the flaming bomb, crossed cannons and military inspector's initials. Therefore I do not believe it was ever govenment property.
I find it interesting that L C Smith made and sold sporting shotguns to the public during World War II. Most other gun companies switched almost totally to war related work.
