Do not shoot steel shot out of your 12 gauge 3 inch magnum L C Smith LONG RANGE. The original chokes are so tight that steel shot will rupture the barrels of a L C Smith LONG RANGE SXS. The amount of LEAD SHOT that you are trying to push will determine the recoil as much or more than the amount of gun powder used in the shotgun shell. Yes, your L C Smith butt stock can be degreased and glass bedded to help stop cracking or splitting during heavy recoil.
