Gotcha Randy! I'd still guess that it would be numbered to the gun if it were factory work, as they routinely numbered after-purchase barrel-sets to guns fit by the factory to the original gun serial number...if I understand correctly.
Dr. Jim Stubendieck, our record keeper and research letter writer may chime in on whether or not after purchase modification records were kept, but I do not recall hearing of any from folks I know that have ordered research letters.
