Unless the gun was originally ordered with a Silvers rubber pad, a leather pad, or Hunter's seldom seen skeleton butt-plate; the 5-E, and all other high-grade Smith guns manufactured in 1905 to include the A-3, were shipped with Hunter's standard hard-rubber butt plate that was identical to the butt plate used on the lowest grade hammer and Field Grade guns.
