It's solved, thanks to a bunch of information from Francis Marion and, especially, a "talk-through" by Jerry Andrews. Interesting little fluke. The little coil springs on the ejector mechanism - the end coil on one had opened and the spring turned around so the end of the spring was between the base of one lever and the frame. That was keeping the levers from dropping enough to release on opening.
