L.C. Smith SXS Double Trigger Safety Question

I was wondering if someone can help me out. I have a SXS double trigger 12ga. L.C. Smith Field Grade. I hunted with it last weekend after a long couple of years so I dont remember if this had always happened. After shooting the first shot the safety automatically switched to "ON" and did not allow me to fire the second shot. Is this typical? Because I remember the gun being able to fire the second shot without having to switch the safety "OFF" again. This is a problem while hunting and I would like for it to shoot both shots without having to take the safety "OFF" twice. Will I need to take it to a gun smith? I would appreciate if someone can help me out and maybe recommend a familiar gunsmith in the lower New York Area. Thank you, Sam
