Recently bought a stock for a hammer gun from a member here and was told that the stock was in good condition and also mentioned it had a dilapidated recoil pad, I said no problem as I would replace it or if it wasn't cut I would put a butt plate on it.
Received stock which is in very nice condition and is from 1917 from serial number. Recoil pad is an old Josdam Anti-Flinch which is no good at all. I looked at stock and saw that it was straight and figured it was cut as most stocks without a recoil pad have a slight curve to them.
Took off recoil pad and was surprised, stock was not cut and must have been ordered with a recoil pad. (1918 catalog states Recoil pad, any make $5.00) and the numbers 2 3/4" stamped in wood.
I'm guessing this has to be the Drop at Heel.
This stock is for a replacement 16 ga. hammer gun circa 1910 and replacement stock is from a 12 ga.
Has anyone else seen these numbers on any stock?
