Chris, Welcome. As you have found out when looking up your serial number that your gun is an ejector Grade 00. (this means that when the gun is fired and opened the fired shell is ejected automatically from gun). Armor steel was put on these guns from the beginning.
In your description, you mention taking out a brass screw to remove the forend, this should not be the case. It should have a roller type release that you push forward and pull the forend off. Unless something was lost/replaced that is the way the forend comes off.
