I received an L.C Smith that was my great grandfather's. It has seen better days. I do not want to sell it. It will be passed on to my son.
I would like to figure out the year and grade.
I further want to stop any damage to it, but am worried about further damage.
Would love to take it hunting if possible.
I am not financially able to pay for any work on it for a few years. I have lightly applied some gun oil to it, but very sparingly.
According to the serial number search it is dated 1901.
Based on pictures I believe it to be No.0.
I can not read all numbers due to not being able to get the barrel off as the brass screw does not unscrew the wood completely from the barrel.
Description:
the serial number stamped on the right water table/barrel flat is
5412.
the numbers/letters on the left water table/barrel flat are hard to make out but I have what looks like DMAR 29,83 LY13,86 CY 5,86.
The right barrel has stamped on it Hunter Arms Co. Makers, Fulton NY. One line.
Left barrel has Armor Steel stamped on it. (I haven't read about this in the shotgun/grade section)
There is no engraving I can make out.
There are 2 linear triggers.
L.C. Smith stamped on Lock plates. No flat head screw before L.C. Smith like the picture of the No.00
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Chris.
