I must admit I was overcome with sadness today as I read the Email concerning the passing of John Houchins. I had spoken to John several times during the last couple of years and had the pleasure of a few in person meetings where we had the time to discuss this passion from Fulton that we shared,. I can possibly count on one hand the number of people that I am aware of that are able to understand in depth of scope concerning L.C. Smith guns and the people that made them what they are. I number John in this group.
If Col. Brophy laid the foundation for our knowledge base John Houchins surely is the man that fleshed out the company and the people who built these fine guns we covet.
I had the pleasure of meeting the trophy wife of one of our members at the Southern this year and in the pursuing conversation I remember discussing the idea of " legends and characters" of our membership, well, some may say the Gentelman/ Lawyer from Texas was a character but his book may well have made him a legend for many years to come for the collector of sweet Elsie.
Rest Well John
