Can any upland gun be too light? I suppose you're right, R framed guns with 30-inch tubes are generally fairly substantial. That 16 shouldn't have been too-bad a kicker if it fit you well and the loads were appropriate. I guess I'm more sensitive to lugging a heavy gun all day than to felt recoil (perhaps this is a post 50-years issue as well). My prey species of choice, Ruffed Grouse, almost always depart at such an alarming rate that I want a gun that I can get out in front of them. Lighter guns allow me to do just that.
