David - thanks. The forend is currently off, but the barrels still won't disattach from the receiver. The forend has a screw that I had to remove to get the forend off. As for grade, it is stamped "Field" next to the serial no. (the forend also has an "L" stamped into the wood; I'm curious about that, too). I will be posting pics as soon as I can take them, as I really appreciate the help and I'm very curious about all this (my first excursion into old shotguns). When I do, don't assume I know anything!
