31 LC 16 field grade -safe with modern loads???

I am picking up a 1931 LC/16 ga. It appears in great shape, no pitting in the barrels. Is it safe to run moidern loads through??? Or is this just a collector. Frankly, its not in pristine collector shape, so I hope its a "shooter."
