Good luck to the South American Raw Powerlifters competing in the first GPA sanctioned South American Raw Powerlifting and Bench Press Championship on October 6-9, 2011, at Villa Maria, Cordoba, Argentina (1° Campeonato Sudamericano Powerlifting & Bench Press Raw-GPA/ASUPO).
Before the Championship opening event, a meeting will be held with all country representatives to officially found the ASUPO. Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, Uruguay, Chile, Paraguay and Ecuador have confirmed their presence
There were no complaints from the lifters. As you can see in the results table bellow, we believe it is fair to say that this Championship shows South America as capable of delivering competitive numbers, in spite of being small, powerlifting-wise. The high point was naturally Mauro’s great 380kg squat. However, there were other significant achievements, such as the juniors: Mauro Almiron, at 19 and 89,6kg BW, with a 302,5kg squat; Pedro Cordero, at 17, 84,2kg BW, with a 215 squat; Facundo Soria, at 20, 108,5kg BW, with a 175kg bench press and Jason Samper, at 17, from Colombia, with a 250kg squat and a 605kg total. We had nice open results besides Mauro’s, such as Christian Borrea, SHW, with a 230kg bench press, Marilia Coutinho, at 48, 59,7kg BW, from Brazil, with a 107,5kg bench press and Gisella Armesto, at 25, 68,3kg BW, with a 105kg bench press. Finally, we had the masters with Antonio Falcone, with a 190kg bench press and Carlos Porta, at 78, 86,9kg BW, with a 102,5kg bench press. We already have a few dates on our RAW calendar, including the November 29, 2012 World Championship at Villa Maria, Argentina, and the October 2013 South American RAW Bench Press and Powerlifting Championship, at Uruguay.
Congratulations on a very successful South American Championships. There were many World and South American Records established that will stand for a long time. Not only did Mauro have a great squat, he finished with a great World Record Total. We are looking forward to bringing a US team to Villa Maria in 2012.
