I would personally like to thank everyone who joined the APC in Peoria Illinois this past weekend for the Central USA OPen. I would especially thank LB and Svetlana Baker for coming up from Athens GA to lift with us.

Now we begin preparing for the Nationals on June 5,6 and 7. During the preperation for this past contest we were asked often about RAW divisions. Especially the BenchPress. We had not planned on having RAW divisions at the Nationals but that does not mean they cant be added.

I am looking for input from the APC. Please email me or post on the forum your thoughts. If the interest is there, we may put add the divisions. Let me know.

RyanopowerThe APC keeps a seperate set of RAW records for bench, so it only seems appropriate to have a seperate RAW division. Otherwise someone in the meet lifting RAW could get a 2nd place trophy, losing to an equipped lifter,but still setting a World RAW Bench Record. That doesn't make much sense. I don't recall if that's the way the last meet was set up or not. I know there was a lifter, lifting RAW, in my weightclass but I lifted Master and not open. If I had lifted Open, would he have gotten a second place trophy?
I would also recommend much more advertising for Nat'ls. Being retired, I'm on the internet quite a bit and only heard of the meet by word of mouth. I know there are more lifters in Central IL that would appreciate having a quality meet in the area if they knew about it.

Hello Roger,

Thanks for your comments, and it was a pleasure to meet you in Peoria. It is good to see a master lifter with such a good bench. Usually the bench is the first to go in master lifters.

The RAW division will be included in the APC Nationals as well as all other regional and state meets. We had the first meet including the raw division in January and it was equally divided among raw and equipped lifters. The response to the RAW division has been very good. The Central US meet in Peoria was the first APC meet in Illinois but look for it to be an annual event. The APC has separate records for the RAW bench division and RAW powerlifting divisions.

Our meets are advertised well in advance on our web site, www.americanpowerliftingcommittee.com as well as by mail out notices to our membership. Now that you have found us I hope you will continue to post here. We see our activity statistics on our server so we know that the page is viewed each month in 80-90 countries as well as by most of the powerlifting community in the US. We don't allow trols or lifter/federation insults on our forum so that limits the posting activity to serious postings.

L.B. it was a pleasure to meet you and your wife. Also an inspiration to see both of you lifting. I think it may be beneficial for the APC to advertise on local media about the Nat'l meet. There are alot of lifters in Central IL that are probably unaware of the APC. Maybe a radio or newspaper ad may help. If not get them to the meet to lift, at least it may bring some spectators who may lift in the future. Just a thought. Good luck with your training and I'll hopefully see you in June.

Stephen and Greg, with the powerful help of Jodi and Buffy, will spread the word. It was nice to see the television station coverage there. It was a nice story they presented. Powerlifting is a great sport with a place for all people who want to participate, from the novice to the elite, old and young. There is a category and strength level for all. My wife and I will be there in June and much stronger. I am looking forward to seeing you get that record and another after it.

The WUAP Worlds will be in beautiful Saint-Avold France in September. I was there a few years ago for the European Championships. The meet promoter, Dominque Seminatore, did a fantastic job. He and his wife Valarie are promoting the worlds this year and they have promised a larger and better contest this year. The APC will divide the balance of the Athlete's fund equally with the winners of the APC Nationlas in Peoria who are traveling to Saint-Avold.

During World War II Saint-Avold was occupied by the Germans and was a large battle ground. The largest American Cemetery and monument in Europe is there. More than 13,000 known american solders are burried there, and some unknown. be sure and visit while you are there.

Believe me Greg and I were all over Peoria and the surrounding areas promoting the contest. Greg sent out emails and posters to a large number of powerlifting gyms all over Illinois and some in the surrounding states.
Powerlifting USA missed getting us in 2 months in a row. Not sure if that was our fault or theres but it really does not matter at this point. Either way that did not help the turn out.
The APC strict rules did discourage some lifters from attending as well. I know this for a fact because some were friend of mine who insist on wearing open back shirts.
Already Greg and I have been pounding on doors at local businesses encouraging their support. Dr. Rob Richardson of Health Solutions has pledged his support again. Support is the key to these contest and we appreciate all our sponsors for this last contest. Hooters, Old Chicago and I'm No Angel Tattoo all contributed support that helped us put this on. I personally ask everyone to show there thanks to these businesses by giving them your business.
The Nationals will be bigger and better than this last contest I will assure you.
