Amid predictions of gloom and doom about the demise of the APC I want to report that we have $7,461.00 in the Athlete's Fund for travel assistance for the winners of the APC Nationals in Norfolk, Va. who are traveling to the WUAP World Championships October 2-5, 2008 in Lauchhammer, Germany. The APC continues to be the only American Powerlifting federation that offers financial assistance to the lifters.
For the record, the APC started in 2002 with the first National Championship in 2003. We started with a clean record slate and rules to suit our federation. I am flattered that another federation wants to copy us. In the beginning we had rapid growth and as a result we made some bad choices with some meet promoters and our World affiliation which we have corrected. We will be adding meet promoters and state chairmen but we will be more selective in the future. Our World affiliations will be more in line with our goals. We will continue with two ply gear and the current rules.
I think the addition of the Raw Division to accommodate the growing trend of Raw lifters is a positive step. We will be setting up records for the Raw lifters in all categories. The rules of performance will be the same except for the equipment.
For our lifters and future lifters, I, and the Board of Directors thank you and appreciate your support. To remind every one, the APC meetings and rules selection has always been and will continue to be open to all lifters. All APC news is reported on the APC web site. We will be here for a very long time.
