A special meeting was called Saturday, April 12, 2008 to discuss the situation with the GPC Board of Directors. In attendance was Curtis Leslie, Jim Rouse, Stephen Parkhurst, Tom Bowman, L B Baker, and Mike Kidd.

It was decided that the current GPC Board of Directors is leading the GPC in a direction that is not conducive with the mission statement of the American Powerlifting Committee nor the original mission of the GPC. As a result of the unanimous vote the APC Board of Directors is withdrawing the American Powerlifting Committee as the GPC affiliate in the United States. The American Powerlifting Committee will send a team to the WUAP World Powerlifting and Bench Press Championships October 1, 2, 3, 4, 2008 in Lauchhammer, Germany. More information will be available soon.
