Go to Pops Racing site,a link off of here,go to the William E. Stock collection and then to 1962 Freeport. There;s a color picture of the #1. Those cables on the 71 had turnbuckles on them that Bruno turned to stiffen the chassis rails on the car. Alot of guys used steel plate but it made the car too heavy. Bruno used to come over to Weissglass here on Staten Island by the Promoters invitation and kick the local guys butts.Bruno always took the lead in the feature at Freeport on the last lap coming out of the fouth turn .I have a video of five different sedan mains and every one ends the same. He passes George Brunhoezl in the red #42 on the last lap and wins by a few feet.He told me he did it deliberately to put on a show for the fans. You know he is the all time feature winner at Freeport. He is also the only driver to win all three heats and mains in one night,Sedan,Non-Ford,and Modified. He drove my Legends car at age 76 three times in PA. and finished eighth all three times right in the thick of it.Check out my website, weissglassspeedway.com for Staten Island Racing history. Thanks, George.
