Posted by Kevin Van Meter I was the last track announcer at that fabled insitution. A lot has happened since then. I have done PA work for the New York Islanders. For 14 years, announced the New York Police/Fireman Hockey game at both Madison Square Garden and Nassau Coliseum. I got married at age 44, my wife put me through college and now I PA/DJ announce big-time college basketball for my alma-mater, Iona College and coach Jeff Ruland. I have announced football at Giants Stadium and this April, I will begin my 15th year as the Ring Announcer for the Golden Gloves Boxing at Madison Square Garden. Don Campi who owned Freeport Speedway gave me my first truly professional sport announcing job. It gave me experience to handle crowds. I work at Cablevision's News 12 Westchester, besides announcing sports I own my own announcing business. It all started at Freeport Speedway. God bless,

Hello, everybody, the fans, drivers and everyone who were associated with the great Freeport Speedway of the 70s and 80s.
My description of the backward-forward demolition derby I guess, became my trademark.
I miss it so much, and I hope you'll drop me a line to see who everybody's doing.
Kevin Van Meter
Track Announcer, Freeport Speedway
1976-1984 (The track closing)
