This will be the Grand Opening of Discovery Green Park, accross from the George R Brown Convention Center. Also appearing is Al Jarreau.
In addition to the grand opening of the park , the concert is also to honor Dr Robert Morgan who was the director of Jazz Studies at the High School for Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA). The concert featuring former students of Dr Morgan begins at 6:00pm.
La Mafia goes on at 7:00 (so get there early). La Mafia's bass player Tim Ruiz is an alumni of HSPVA as is former drummer Michael Aguilar who will be joining La Mafia for this show.
Al Jarreau also has some band members who are HSPVA alumni.
