Alex-
What kind of immunosuppressants are you on? It sounds like you're probably on some kind of steroid (Prednisone?) to be having all of those problems. Here in the US, the newer approach is to wean recipients off of steroid as soon as possible, at least at my transplant center. I was only on Prednisone for 6 weeks. Steroids affect everything from your bones, to your blood sugar, skin sensitivity and temperature intolerance, your healing times, you balance and blood pressure... It's amazing to me that you have to take so many medications. Other than vitamins, I just take 13mg of Prograf and 1000mg Cellcept a day (15 pills total for the day). It sounds like maybe you had a very complicated case, because I've never heard of ANYONE having that many problems (and I worked in transplant for many years before I ended up getting sick). As far as the recovery time, maybe I was just lucky. I'm sorry you've been through so much! Hopefully your KP will last you many many years.
I do have a question for you regarding your donor--in Britain do they support communication between the donor family and the recipient? They do here, and it's been wonderful getting letters from my donor's mother. What has everyone's experience been?
