I am an English KP transplant patient, or as they call it here a 2Tx, I had my transplants 5 years ago, all went well at first then all hell broke loose when some how my bladder was knicked during the stent removal, in the end I was reopened more than 4 times, I have completey lost 2 months of the time I was in Hospital(Guy's, London)in the end I spent 8 1/2 months on the ward that year and had a couple of months on the ward the next year, what you must remember is that 2Tx's are immuno suppressed far more than other transpant patients, also those that get away without any complecations tend to do the worst in the long run, they just do not seem to relise that you must take care of themselves, also in the UK anyway the rejection rate is far lower in 2Tx's than ordinary transplants, as it is I had to be given blood for months after the re opening, I continued to bleed internally for over a year, the scar took 18 months to heal and yes everything works really well, I and others may have a really bad time in the biggining, but it does not mean it will be like this for ever, when I started taking the tablets I was on 74 four times a day, now I am on less than 30 all up. My TX doctor says that it takes 2 to 3 years for everything to settle down, I found this to be about the only bit of correct advice they ever gave me, I had weak bones and was terribly sensotive to touch, sound and taste for at least 2 years, after which things settled down, now I feel great and my bloods are fine, I do better in hot weather than cold and if I try to move fast, run etc, my legs give out, so I end up on my knees, then my head gives out and I tend to have a mini blackout, many of the 2Tx's I know have this problem, I think it is caused by the new organds stripping oxygen from th blood supply to the legs and all that happens is a chain reaction and it then takes oxygen from other areas of the body, so the lasson is take thing easy at firsts, don't change a car tyre for a year or two as happened to someone i know and take things at a steady pace, try and walk as much as possible as this improves your balance and blood surculation and have a good time.
