Have faith in your transplant center. They have gotten you this far and will do what is necessary to get him through. I am not saying that everything will go smooth all the time, but you have the odds with you. Join a support group. You will find that you are not alone. Also, if anything happens, you will have a better feeling what is normal and what to attend to immediately. Good luck and God bless. Don
Hi Sheila, This experience is new to you and the whole thing can be very stressful. I am a heart recipient in '96, and during the 1st 6 months to a year, the medical treatments can be overwhelming. After this time, you can expect the treatments will be substantially reduced. During the first year, I had 14 biopsies scheduled and ended up with 16 because I developed a severe case of cyclo-megla-virus. For the past 4 years, I have had only one biopsy each year. I know a friend who spent 3 months in and out of the hospital post transplant, but the transplant center resolved the problems. For the last 8 years, he is doing great, going back to work and leading a healthy life.
