Posted by Dawson on 5/30/2003, 11:41 am, in reply to "Pregnancy after kidney and pancreas transplant" I can't give you any medical numbers, but I had 2 children after my second kidney transplant. I was probably on more immunosuppression, but not a lot. I had always wanted kids and I think I was in a little denial that anything bad would happen to me , the kidney or my children. That being said--I asked my brother (who had given me the kidney) for his permission to take this risk knowing there was some risk involved. My pregnancies went fairly smoothly and I now have 2 healthy boys-6 and 10 years old. There has been a price I believe, but I wouldn't trade my boys for anything- I just hope they feel the same way since their life hasn't been as smooth in a lot of ways as children of healthy mothers. After their births (when the youngest was 4) I was on dialysis for a year and then 15 months ago I had my third transplant. Life has been a constant game of russian roulette and I 'm sure it hasn't been easy on my family. If you want to talk or e-mail I'd be glad to share my experiences with you, but I guess the bottom line is its a very personal decision no matter what. Dawson
