Steroid withdrawal is still fairly early in its wide use: it used to be that only people who had serious problems with prednisone were removed from it as a last resort, but now some doctors are removing patients earlier to hopefully prevent its side effects.
There is a lot of information on steroid withdrawal but I have not found a single best decision yet. The data is just all over the place. My docs still think that low doses of prednisone are worth the risk of some side effects to gain the increased graft survival. Other studies show that the differences in graft survival are present, but are not statistically significant,
