My husband gave me one of his kidneys. We only match at a 1. The kidney started working right away and continues to do well. So, things can work out well. My husband also had to lose about 45lbs. before they would do the surgery. He worked very hard and lost it in less then 6 months. (unfortunately he gained most of it back)
