Posted by John Most viruses, once in your system, are never completly destroyed as many bacteria can be destroyed; they are just inactive dormant. Still it pays to be as cautious as you can be.

Of course, I have seen more patients with their own dormant virus develop shingles than from chickenpox expousre. I don't really know that this type is very predictable, so even without exposure some people develop shingles.
