Chihuahua

One of the families that my church is sponsoring for Christmas, has a child that desperately wants a Chihuahua and I doubt that the variety matters (long hair or short hair, or age [except that it probably shouldn't be older] or one that has any existing major health problems, since it would be going to a child in a family of limited means). My church is The Spiritual Enrichment Center in Palm Springs, Ca.
Is there anything that anyone can do or suggest to help this child's wish come true?
