I think the couple starved their child. I don't think that the couple was/is vegan. Veganism is defined as compassion toward ALL living beings, not as a particular diet. Starving a child to death is hardly an act of compassion. Most of all, I don't appreciate the press labeling this couple as vegan. It's just another instance of sensationalism in the media and another attempt to discredit veganism (and thereby promote the interests of agribusiness and those who eat murdered animals). As for whether or not the sentence is just, I can't say. If the couple wind up in prison then so should all the people who didn't intervene while there was still time to help. Why aren't the neighbors, family members, friends, and anyone else who came into contact with this couple being held responsible? Why wasn't child protective services ever contacted? It shouldn't take a dead baby to show that these people need help. I really don't think jail or prison is what they need; instead, I think our social services system needs a complete overhaul.
: I really dont think that this was a just
: verdict. What do you all think?
