I always assumed when they talked about the competition between food and fuel for corn they were talking about when they fed corn to cattle and then consumed the cattle. This article makes it sound they they are talking about direct corn consumption by humans. Also, I hadn't stopped to consider what it would do to the price of corn for the poor.
