I haven't researched ethanol production; however, we just bought a new pick-up (4WD) and decided against one that burns ethanol. There were several reasons, including there's only place in our entire county that sells that fuel. We'd waste a lot of fuel getting to that one service station. Also, the ethanol version of our truck burns really hot which means it goes through ethanol twice as fast as regular gasoline (both fuels cost about the same here). AND the dealer didn't sound reassuring about wear and tear on other parts of the vehicle. In short, I don't think the technology is user ready. I strongly suspect electric cars will (or solar) will be the wave of the future. I'd love to have an alternative to fossil fuels, but I'm sure it won't happen in my lifetime.
