This is a very similar question to other questions on the Just Stop Chatboard. I suggest you scroll down and read my and other readers' responses to similar posts.
At the end of the day, you have to ask yourself what's important to you and why you're making the life changes you are making. Is it to be healthier, happier and spend more time with your family? Change is not always easy. But it is usually worth it. Sounds like you're spending too much time focusing on the "lack" rather than what you actually have to "gain" -- happiness, health, etc.
If you're concerned about your own individual metabolism, see your doctor -- something everyone should do before beginning a major life change.
Can it be tough to make these kind of changes and go against the unhealthy eating habits you've gotten used to? Yes. Very tough. But what's important to you? What are your goals? Why do you want to lose weight and become healthier? Change your focus. Write in a journal (as suggested in the Just Stop! Book on page 79) and the Stress Busters section (on Page 80).
Sometimes, you just have to borrow the phrase from the old Nike advertising campaign: JUST DO IT. Stop focusing on the negative and start focusing on what you want to accomplish and why.
Here are a few helpful links on attaining goals:

Good luck and keep at it. It's worth it.
