The information you're seeking is in the book. As you noted, individual needs vary (which is why I always recommend talking to your personal physician before any major change is made to your individual eating and/or exercise habits).
It also takes time to adjust to new eating habits. I like the analogy of needing to put blinders on (like a racehorse) and moving forward, focused on your goal. Don't know what your goal is? Then work on that through journaling and/or talking to friends and family.
