Thanks for your post and question!
When you eat healthy, there’s no need to “speed the process” or cleanse the colon. Your body’s functions should occur naturally as a result of eating right, exercising consistently, drinking water and getting enough rest. As a society, we’re obsessed with finding “shortcuts,” when in actuality, these usually just complicate the process. Eating the right foods helps our body function at an optimum level, which means products that claim to “cleanse” aren’t needed.
Sometimes detox routines or cleanses will result in temporary weight loss. But this is usually water weight (which means it will be put back on with your next drink or meal). Also, many of these cleanses can be harsh to your system and even screw up your internal functions for a few days or longer. Many of the detoxes, fasts or cleanses on the market can be downright dangerous. This does not result in total overall health. And total overall health is what the Just Stop Eating So Much! plan encourages. It’s about total health -- not just losing a certain amount of weight in the shortest amount of time.
If you have a specific need that you think a colon cleanse might help with, I urge you to speak with your personal physician. But the products you mentioned don’t offer any shortcuts because, in the long run, shortcuts to overall health don’t exist.
As for the hype surrounding Acai Berries, at this point, “hype” is the key word. This product has been called a “super food,” but many of the sources calling it this are selling it in various forms (powders, tablets, drinks, etc.). In other words, these sources are out to make a profit. These claims have not always been thoroughly tested. While Acai offers antioxidants that may contribute in a positive way to an overall nutrition plan, it should be used after careful research and as an addition to (not a replacement for) a healthy lifestyle.
Also, antioxidants can be found in lots of foods that are easier to come by than those with Acai ingredients: Blueberries, Cranberries, Artichoke, Blackberries and Prunes, to name a few. (See the link below for more information on good food sources for antioxidants.)
As stated in my book, there are no tricks. There are no shortcuts. Yet if you eat the right foods in the right quantities consistently, you’ll find there is no need for shortcuts. We can’t “trick” the human body.
