Visible abdominal muscles or “6 packs” as they’re often referred to do not come easy. Living in LA and working in the entertainment industry, I see how often actors work out to attain the “perfect bodies” we see on TV and at the movies. These people are usually at the gym at least twice a day. They also have genes and metabolisms that give them an advantage.
Certainly muscles can be built and even be made noticeable in all of us. It takes time and commitment to an exercise program. Decide what your goals are and then work toward that. Based on your current weight or medical conditions, I recommend everyone checks with their doctor before starting any kind of exercise regimen. The last thing you want to do is hurt your back or blow out a kneecap.
Power walking is an excellent form of exercise and doesn’t require a gym membership. It can even help build muscle -- even in the stomach. It’s all about walking with proper posture, pumping your arms back and forth (in sync with each step) and holding in your stomach during the walk (even when moving at a quick pace).
Most of us forget to “hold in” our stomachs. I had an exercise instructor who used to say the only time we shouldn’t be holding in (or sucking in) our tummies is when we’re in bed or the bathtub. I have tried to adopt that philosophy. And I’m not sure I’ll ever had a 6 pack. There is definition though. And this has come from committed, continuous exercise -- as well as varying my exercise routines. Our bodies can easily get used to exercises if we do the same ones over and over. It’s important to change exercise and surprise our bodies (and, therefore, our muscles).
