Beautiful, Suzy Q! Thanks for the post!
“Hitting the wall” is something we all have to deal with from time to time. The trick is to not let “Hitting the Wall” or a struggle with whether or not to stay vegetarian tempt us to say "forget this diet stuff" and turn back to our old eating habits that will make us heavy and unhealthy.
Rather than focus strictly on the food and eating aspect of getting over this hump, I suggest looking to exercise for some inspiration. Along with a healthy food plan and proper portions, exercise is key for getting past any wall that might be blocking us (mental walls or otherwise).
One exercise I found that really jump started things for me was yoga. You might want to invest in a beginning yoga DVD, if you don't have one already. Then work your way up to a more intensive yoga workout. Yoga should be combined with cardio exercise (walking, etc.). But it (yoga) can be a great way to work from the inside out and "shake up" what's going on in our bodies. Of course, everyone should check with his or her own medical professional before embarking on any fitness or diet program to be safe. I say it a lot, but I want everyone to be as healthy on the inside as they are going to be on the outside.
Another "tip" I find helpful for getting past a wall is water. Lots of water. I know it's not easy consuming water (and the constant need for a restroom that results from it -- all of my friends make fun of me for knowing where the cleanest public bathrooms are whenever we're out). But water really does "rinse" our systems of toxins and other inhibitors that could be creating a plateau or stalling weight loss.
As for the vegetarian debate, this is something that only you can resolve. Perhaps the answer lies in no red meat. Or just fish products. There are nutritionists who can assist you with developing your own plan if this is something that is paramount to you. I, myself, was a vegan for a couple years (long after I’d lost the weight on the Just Stop! plan). But after a while, I found that animal protein was more conducive for my lifestyle and even my body. But I understand and respect that this is an individual decision.
If you want to use “meat alternatives” (love that terminology -- LOL), you can do so. Just be wary of the fat count and the portions -- as well as the calorie intake as it would compare with the animal protein choices you’d find on the Just Stop! plan. See if this “adaption” works for you -- and for losing weight. If not, you might want to try incorporating just chicken and fish, as suggested above.
If you find vegetarian choices that work, I hope you’ll share any findings with all of us via the Just Stop! Chat Board. Your posts helps so many people. (And that’s true for all of you who are kind enough to post questions, ideas and even challenges on the chat boards. I applaud you all!)
Lastly, remember that you are beautiful in this very moment, Suzy Q -- whether you choose to be a vegetarian or not (and no matter what side of the wall you’re on today). Remember that Rome wasn't built in a day and good changes do and will take time. Keep up the good work and keep us posted, okay?
