This is a shout out to those Just Stoppers! who are dealing with physical challenges when it comes to exercise. I know I talk a good game. But I also know that it's tough to deal with physical limitations when it comes to exercise. Case in point: This past week, I was at the gym (at 5am!) and bent over to adjust some weight on a weight machine. Although I was warmed up, I pulled something in my lower back and have been extreme pain ever since.
I pushed through my workout that morning, which was a mistake. I ended up making the injury worse and have been in even greater pain ever since. It wasn't until I stopped trying to power through my normal workouts and instead decided to take a few days off to allow my body to heal that I started to make some progress.
As I sit here typing this, I am still in some pain and my workouts have been relegated to taking "Short Neighborhood Walks" -- a big difference from my usual weigh and cardio routines I do every weekday morning.
My point for writing this? I feel your pain. I did before. I do now. And I'm here as a living and breathing (and at moments hobbling -- LOL) reminder that sometimes LESS IS MORE. Am I burning tons of calories with my careful neighborhood walks? No. But I'm moving -- and in a way that's healthy and appropriate for my body given what's going on with it at this time.
I encourage all of you to take things one step at a time. While we need to push ourselves to attain our goals, we also need to be mindful of not over-doing it and making sure that our inner health is as beautiful as our outer health.
And I'm here to tell you, you're ALL beautiful!
