Good question, Dawn. And one that plagues many of us. I used to joke that I always ate for two -- myself and the state of New Jersey. The reasons we overeat are varied. I finally came to the conclusion that *why* we overeat doesn't matter all that much. I spent years trying to dig into the psychological reasons as to why I was eating so much. Then, one day, I decided that no matter why I did it, it needed to stop.
I equate this with a horse who has blinders on. The distractions are hidden from the horse (with the blinders) so he continues forward -- toward the goal. As dieters, we need to sometimes just put blinders on, as well. What matters most? Digging into the reasons or just doing it? I think too much "touchy-feely" time is spent on "why." When really, we need to DO.
Yes, dieting sucks. Yes, we miss our favorite foods. But how good does fitting into our skinny jeans feel? How good does being healthy feel? And how good does getting someone's attention feel? Not to mention getting the boost to our own self confidence, which is where *real* psychological health comes into it.
Okay. So you eat for four. It's something we all can relate to. It's something we've all done. It's something some of us are still doing. You're not alone in this. But you're also not alone in trying to make a CHANGE. That change starts NOW, Dawn. Put on those blinders and trudge forward. Soon, you can see the pounds melting away and suddenly eating for four won't seem so important -- and neither will the reasons that you did it in the first place.
I hope others post back to this comment, Dawn. Because I'd love to hear what they have to say, as well. We're all in this together.
Hang in there! I believe in you! YOU CAN DO IT!
