Yeah well I like their music and he's a talented musician but he was also a two timing wife beater. As a woman who spent three years in an on-off domestically abusive relationship I think it's a very sad reflection on society that he is regarded as an icon. I guess a lot of people think mistreatment of women is acceptable and it isn't. Nor will it ever be.
I would now class myself as an ex Joy Division fan and I'm not surprised so many of the bands marriages ended in divorce as that's what happens when you're a male chauvinist pig, you get dumped.
I very much regard Joy Division as callous, cruel, grossly insensitive sexist male chauvinist pigs. Their name and their disgusting treatment of women says it all.
About the only thing you can say in defence of Curtis was that he was mentally ill but even still.
